Mrs. Rosemary C. Simon, 85, passed away peacefully in her sleep September 15, 2020. Rosemary was born in Oneida, New York, on October 11, 1934, the youngest child of Carmen and Lucy Phillips.
In 1948, the family relocated to Pasadena, California where Rosemary’s father worked as a bricklayer.
Rosemary graduated from Pasadena High School. At the time, Pasadena Junior College shared the same location as the high school, so Rosemary took several college classes, mostly courses in the secretarial sciences. Rosemary won an award for her outstanding work in these courses.
In 1954, Rosemary married Mr. Paul P. Simon of El Monte, California. Rosemary and Paul ultimately settled in El Monte and raised four daughters together.
In 1976-1977, Rosemary embarked on an approximately 20 year secretarial career, beginning at the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) in Los Angeles and ending at the Northrop B-2 location in Pico Rivera.
Rosemary enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, baking (at one time Rosemary aspired to be a professional cook/baker). She also loved to paint and to do a variety of arts and crafts projects. Rosemary’s family is still in possession of many of her original works. Rosemary enjoyed listening to music, especially to the songs of Tony Bennett, and she loved watching Elvis Presley on screen. Rosemary also enjoyed singing, most often at Nativity Catholic Church, and was very active in assisting at her daughters’ school, Nativity School. She was also an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
After retirement, Rosemary and Paul enjoyed spending time with their three grandchildren as well as relaxing at their San Marcos beach house.
Rosemary is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Paul; daughters Paula(Michael Schaefer), Therese, Cynthia, Angela(Luukia), and son-in-law Juan Carlos Diaz; grandchildren Paul and Gianna Diaz; sisters Mary Hennessy (Richard – RIP), and Norma(Ernie) Anderson. Rosemary was preceded in death by grandson Justin Schaefer in 2015.
Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Montebello. Mortuary arrangements are being handled by Everlasting Memorial Funeral Chapel in Rosemead, CA.
